New You?

Hey team,

How’s everyone’s 2013 going so far? How many of you have made New Year’s resolutions and already broken them? How many of you wanted to restart your fitness program and to get in shape this year? It’s really hard to do it on your own, and you need the help and support from a team of people. A team member, Jamie wrote me a couple weeks ago saying she had started and stopped Insanity several times and she also need help with her diet. I suggested that she join my thread on the message board for daily support and motivation, and to try Shakeology to help her with her diet and nutrition. She took my advice and is doing great! I’m sure this time she will succeed and meet her goals. If you need help, motivation, or support, then please contact me. Also a great way to get excited and motivated is by getting a new workout program. There are several new ones that have come out recently so please contact me for advice on which one is best for you and for ways to save money.

As for me, I’ll be finishing up my 90 day round of Body Beast this week! Then starting next week, my wife and I will be starting another Ultimate Reset 21 day cleanse. We both saw such amazing results after the first time we did Ultimate Reset, I’m excited to see what happens this time. Stock up on Pantry Staples

When time gets tight and your grumbling belly calls for dinner, you’re probably tempted to order take-out. Instead, stock your pantry with these healthy, waistline-friendly staples to back up the fresh fruits, veggies, and protein that make up most of your diet. You’ll be able to make many good-for-you meals and snacks in no time—just call it healthy fast food.

Canned beans. A quick way to sneak more fiber and protein and up the satisfaction factor of any meal. Choose low sodium options, or rinse well before use.

Raw almonds. Packed with good-for-you, satiating fats.

Dried fruit. Toss dried plums, apricots, cranberries, and raisins into oatmeal, rice pilafs, and atop salads for a dose of filling fiber and antioxidants. Dried varieties can boast four times the calories as fresh, so stick to a 1/4-cup serving. Make sure to avoid added sugar varieties.

Easy-to-cook grains. Precooked brown rice needs only a minute in the microwave; quinoa cooks in 15; bulgur and whole wheat couscous takes five, and whole-grain pastas are ready in eight minutes.

Nut butter. For the most wholesome option, look for almond, cashew, or peanut butter made with only nuts and maybe salt (added sugar and oil isn’t necessary for taste or texture). Stick to a one- or two-tablespoon serving to mind calories.

Spaghetti sauce. Bursting with disease-fighting lycopene and fat-fighting vitamin C, use tomato sauce in a pinch to simmer with chicken, top on pizza, and, of course, pour over whole-grain pasta. Look for no-sugar-added varieties.

Salsa. Spooned over fish, chicken, eggs, or steamed veggies, salsa is a less processed alternative to jarred pasta sauce that supplies a savory taste for few calories.

Extra-virgin olive oil. For cooking, or drizzle  monounsaturated fatty acids–packed extra virgin olive oil on salad or veggies after they’re cooked to help your body absorb even more healthful antioxidants, advises a new study from Purdue University.

Reduced-sodium broth. Whether chicken, vegetable, or beef, broth adds loads of flavor for few calories. One tip: cut nearly 120 calories by sautéing veggies in two tablespoons of broth versus one tablespoon of oil.

Spices and hot sauce. Zest up dishes for zero calories.

Lentils. With fiber and protein, legumes digest slowly—so you’ll stay fuller, longer and won’t fall victim to blood sugar spikes and dips that drive hunger. Short on time? Buy precooked lentils to toss with salads, rice pilafs, and soups.

Sea salt. Packs trace minerals and a crunchier texture. Use just a sprinkle punch up the flavor of foods while still watching sodium intake.
